What happens to your food waste after collection?

With new and simpler recycling legislation being introduced on the 31st of March, all businesses will soon need to make arrangements for food waste management.

Here at Bio Collectors, we make food recycling really easy. Simply arrange a pick-up schedule that suits your business, and our bio vehicles will do the rest.

But perhaps you’re wondering what happens to your food waste once we collect it? Read on to find out.

What happens to your food waste after it’s collected?

Bio Collectors are on a mission to make commercial food waste recycling simple and affordable for companies across the capital.

How do we do this?

  • Collection: Our specialists will collect your food waste on a time and schedule that suits you. It’s worth knowing that even our fleet of bio vehicles is powered by food waste which is part of our sustainable ethos.
  • Transportation: We carefully transport your collected food to our state-of-the-art anaerobic digestion facility.
  • Processing: When the waste arrives, it’s stripped of packaging, plastics and any other contaminants. We’ll then shred it into smaller pieces and put the food in anaerobic digestion tanks where microorganisms break down the organic waste into the final products without the need of oxygen.
  • End Products: The primary end product to emerge from this anaerobic digestion process is biogas which is formed after 72 hours in the tank. This renewable biogas is then pumped into the National Grid to power homes and businesses like yours. Aside from the biogas, the additional leftover material is a high-quality fertiliser and can be used to spread on the fields of local farms to grow more food, making this a truly closed-loop process.
  • Environmental Impact: All of this is really good news for our planet. Sustainable food waste disposal means that very little is actually going to waste. The process diverts waste from landfill too, keeping both your costs and your carbon footprint down.

As you can see, a lot happens after we collect your food. Luckily for you, the hard work is down to us. All you need to do is pick up the phone and book your first collection.

Comply with simpler recycling legislation with the help of Bio Collectors. Your food will be conveniently collected and then transformed into biogas to power UK homes and businesses. This is what we call a closed-loop system and you can be part of it. Simply get in touch to find out more. We take care of commercial food waste management across London and the M25 region.
