Bio Collectors: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions across London

Bio Collectors Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions by Saving Food Waste in UK Homes processing the food from 12 of Londons boroughs

We could prevent a staggering 36 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions just by saving food from our bins in UK homes.

Every year, UK households throw away millions of tonnes of food, contributing to a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions. However, it’s not just about what we’re putting in our bins, but also what we’re doing with it afterwards.

We’re extremely proud to highlight where how we at Bio Collectors process 12 of London’s 32 boroughs’ food waste at our state-of-the-art Anaerobic Digestion plant in Mitcham

BioCollectors and Food Waste Processing

BioCollectors operates under the principle of circular economy. we collect food waste from homes, which would otherwise end up in landfills. This waste is then treated in a state-of-the-art Anaerobic Digestion facility where it’s converted into two valuable resources: biogas and bio-fertiliser.

Biogas, a renewable source of energy, can be used for heating, electricity, or as a fuel for vehicles, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. The biofertiliser, rich in nutrients, is returned to the soil, promoting healthy crop growth and completing the circular economy loop.
In 2022 alone, BioCollectors managed to process around 75,000 tonnes of food waste.

By processing food waste in this manner, we’re not only preventing millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, but we’re also creating renewable energy and contributing to sustainable farming.

Looking Ahead – A Greener, Cleaner Future

BioCollectors’ efforts underline the massive potential we have in addressing the climate crisis by simply managing our food waste better. Imagine the impact if every household across the UK began doing this.

This is just one piece of the larger puzzle that is climate change mitigation, but it’s an essential one. Remember, every small action matters.

Let’s all aim to do our part, reduce our food waste, and contribute to a greener and cleaner future. The power to make a significant change is, quite literally, in our hands…and our bins!
